Hotel wise, there are many choices.

I’ve posted this video for the El Marqués, because I dig its history of pop culture icons who have spent time there.  It seems reasonable price-wise; of course budgets fluctuate, but there are the usual suspects in Cartagena - Hilton etc. - but this place piques my imagination, with a history of people like John Lennon, and Gretta Garbo having spent time there…

There is a tonne of useful intro from this blog: http://juanita-pablo.blogspot.com/ - people who got married in Cartagena - From B&Bs to hotels there are deets.  You should know that Cartagena is full of both beaches and culture; if you are central you will enjoy yourself - I imagine.

So, if you’re coming to Cartagena for the wedding, one option to consider is the apartments where we will be staying with our families.  They are located super central, so it’s not like you have to take transit for half an hour to get to the action.  But they are cheaper than a hotel and have a kitchen, which affords good fun.

A 2-bedroom goes for more-or-less $CDN 65 and a 3 bedroom goes for $CDN 110 / night.

If this seems up your alley, Ely and I can help you book it.  It just requires half your stay up front.  Also, if you’re looking to split an apartment, we can potentially line you up with a sympathetic mate.

So Ely and I are getting married in Cartagena in June.We talked about setting up a blog about it, particularly to help guests, because pretty much everyone will be traveling to the ceremony.
But I think I’m scarred by wedding blogs; they can often seem cheesy.  So instead, I’m adding Cartagena ‘10 as a new thread here at Newshole. The picture of the church above is where we’re getting married, and we’re both pretty excited.  We hope it will be a great big party that will, for a moment, bring together our disparate families and friends from all over.

“The image, burnt into the base of the pan, shows eyes and a nose as well as the distinctive beard and long hair of the son of God…‘My housemates and I had a few beers earlier in the evening I thought I would snack before going to bed and as it was cooking I decided to take a rest on the couch. When I woke up about an hour later the room was full of smoke. Luckily we have an electric hob so I just turned off the heat, but then I lifted up the bacon and there was JC looking back at me.’”                    -Holy Smoke

Okay - it’s full of jingo - but in the Olympic glow, it’s kind of cute, and bouncy.

I met this dude last night after the Rogue Wave show last night, with my buddy Mitch.  He is co-founder of Best Made Axes, a company that sells high-end fashion axes.  Like for chopping wood.  Their goal is to become the platonic ideal of the axe, a must-have status symbol for those in the know.  He’s a real character.  And it wouldn’t surprise me if he pulled it off.
